Training Before Campers Arrive
Every staff member completes training before camp begins, covering supervision, safety and emergency procedures, child development, inclusion, and camp culture. You’ll learn practical skills for leading groups, handling everyday challenges, and helping every camper feel included, and you’ll get to know your fellow staff before the first camper arrives.
Summer 2027 Availability
We expect all of our staff to be available all 37 days of the camp season. Camp runs Monday through Friday, from Monday, June 28, through Friday, August 20, 2027, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., plus our two full-day staff trainings on Sunday, June 13, and Sunday, June 27.
Camp is closed on three days this summer, and staff are not scheduled to work on these days:
- Monday, July 5 (Independence Day, observed)
- Thursday, July 22 (Fast of the 17th of Tammuz)
- Thursday, August 12 (Tisha B’Av)
Life on Staff
Our staff work as a team, build leadership and communication skills, and have the support of our Directors all summer long. You’ll never be on your own: Division Leaders and our leadership team are always nearby to guide, support, and cheer you on. And yes, staff get to join in the fun, from special events to Color War!
Why Work at Camp Moxie
Working at camp is one of the best summer jobs there is, and it's a lot more than a summer job. Research from the American Camp Association (ACA) shows that camp staff grow in the same ways our campers do: they build confidence, try new things, and leave the summer more capable than when they arrived. At Camp Moxie, our staff live our values of Curiosity, Courage, and Community right alongside our campers.
- Make a real difference. You'll be the reason a shy camper finds a friend, a nervous swimmer jumps in, or a first-timer can't wait to come back. Few jobs let you see the impact of your work every single day.
- Build skills employers want. Camp staff develop communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills, the same skills employers say they look for and often find missing in new hires. Camp experience stands out on a resume and gives you real stories to tell in college and job interviews.
- Grow as a leader. Whether you're guiding a group of campers or running an activity area, you'll make decisions, take responsibility, and learn to lead by example.
- Step outside your comfort zone. ACA research finds that staff grow the most when they take on new challenges. At camp, you'll try things you've never done before, with a team cheering you on.
- Get real feedback and support. Our Division Leaders and Directors check in often, coach you through challenges, and celebrate your successes, so you keep getting better all summer.
- Join a community. Camp friendships last. You'll work side by side with a fun, caring team that shares your energy and your love of working with kids.
- Practice professionalism. Showing up on time, being accountable, and working with people from many backgrounds are habits that will serve you in any career.
- Have fun doing it. Where else does your workday include Color War, the zipline, and a pool full of cheering campers?
Many staff come back summer after summer, and ACA research shows that growth keeps building with each season. Whether this is your first job or your next step toward a career in education, health care, or anything else, a summer at Camp Moxie is an experience you'll carry with you for years.
