CAMP MOXIE · JCC JERSEY SHORE

From Our
JCC Family
to Yours

Our JCC’s preschool camp is growing into a traditional co-ed day camp for children 18 months through 10th grade, right here in Deal, New Jersey.

Our Story

Camp Moxie is JCC Jersey Shore’s summer camp, built on more than 80 years of our JCC bringing families together, and on our preschool camp, where so many of our youngest campers made their first camp friends.

Summer after summer, our purpose has stayed the same: to help children grow, try new things, and build real confidence in a place where they feel safe, known, and cared for. There is nothing we love more than watching a shy first-year camper find their voice, cheer on a friend, or proudly master something they never thought they could do. Camp Moxie is where our JCC gets to do that for more children than ever, from 18 months through 10th grade.

A Camp Culture Built on Care

Camp has never simply been a place to spend the summer. It is where children discover confidence, make lifelong friends, try something for the first time, and learn that they are capable of more than they imagined.

Our days are built around Curiosity, Courage, and Community. Curiosity encourages campers to explore. Courage helps them take the next step, even when something feels new or challenging. Community means creating a place where children feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

Camp Is Back at the JCC

Camp Moxie is a new beginning, but summer camp at our JCC is not. For generations of Jersey Shore families, summer meant the JCC: swimming lessons in the pool, games on the fields, and friendships that lasted long after August. In 2027, we’re bringing that tradition all the way back.

  1. 1939
A community center is born. The Long Branch Jewish Community Center opens its doors.
  2. 1941–45
A home away from home. During World War II, the center hosts weekly dances and turns two rooms into a lounge for soldiers.
  3. 1964
A new home in Deal. The center moves to Deal, and soon adds a pool and a physical education wing.
  4. 1977
The JCC of Greater Monmouth County. A new name for a growing community, and summers filled with day campers.
  5. For decades
A camp with a waiting list. The JCC day camp welcomes campers from preschool through 10th grade, and for years families wait for a spot.
  6. 2015
JCC Jersey Shore. The JCC reopens under a new name, and its summer program becomes JCC Camp, serving children from 18 months to 7 years old.
  7. 2027
Camp Moxie. As our community grows, JCC Camp becomes Camp Moxie, with more programs and services and the full traditional day camp back again, from Mini Moxies, ages 18 months to 5, through 10th grade CITs.

Why Camp Matters More Than Ever

Camp gives children something increasingly rare: the chance to be fully present. Campers spend their days moving, creating, swimming, talking, laughing, exploring, and connecting face-to-face. That’s why Camp Moxie is a screen-free camp.

Research from the American Camp Association shows what camp families have always known. In ACA’s national studies, 96% of campers said camp helped them make new friends, 92% said people at camp helped them feel good about themselves, and 74% said they did things at camp they were afraid to do at first. Parents see it too: their children come home more confident, more independent, and more connected to the people around them.
