Why We Unplug
At Camp Moxie, we are big believers in unplugging for the summer: setting aside cell phones, smartwatches, and other connected devices for the weeks of camp, for our campers and our Counselors alike. Summer is the perfect time for children to enjoy everything camp has to offer, face-to-face and fully present.
Research backs this up. In the American Camp Association’s national study of camp, 58% of young people said camp helped them value being present, including stepping away from devices, building in-person relationships, and cutting down on distractions.
Phones and Connected Devices Stay Home
We’d love your help! Before camp starts, please remind your camper that phones, smartwatches, and other connected devices stay home for the summer. Leaving devices at home:
- Helps campers build friendships and a wide range of people skills
- Protects every camper’s privacy, because no one is taking or posting photos of other campers without permission
- Avoids lost, stolen, or broken devices
If a Device Comes to Camp
To protect the safety and privacy of our campers and staff, we follow a simple, friendly approach:
- First time: the camper is asked to put the device in their bag for the rest of the day.
- Second time: a Division Leader talks with the camper about why devices stay home, holds the device, and returns it at the end of the day.
- Third time: the device is taken to the camp office, and a parent or guardian is asked to pick it up.
Please keep in mind that Camp Moxie can’t be responsible for devices that are lost, stolen, or broken at camp.
Never a Dull Moment
From the bus ride in to the last activity of the day, we work hard so campers never need a phone, smartwatch, tablet, or any other device to stay engaged. There is always something to do, someone to talk to, and something new to try!
Need to Reach Your Camper?
If you ever need to reach us, please call the camp office at (732) 531-9102. We’ll make sure your message gets to your camper.
