Leader in Training

Grade 9: the best of both worlds. Still a camper, with an exciting first taste of leadership.

Leadership Starts Here

Our Leader in Training (LIT) Program is designed for campers entering 9th grade who still want all the fun of camp while getting their first real look at what it means to work with children. It’s the best of both worlds!

Mostly Camper, All Summer

About three-quarters of an LIT’s day is spent doing what they love most: camp activities. Through our elective program, LITs build their own schedule each week by choosing the activities that interest them, so most of their day is their choice. LITs also head out on a few trips over the course of the summer.

A First Step Toward Leadership

The rest of the day, about one-quarter, LITs work alongside a camp group or in a specialty area. Mentored by our Counselors and Specialists, they learn how to help younger campers, support a group, and communicate with confidence. It’s their first step toward joining our staff, and the skills they build carry right into our Counselor in Training (CIT) Program the following summer.

Giving Back Together

What makes our LITs special is the work they do for others. Each summer, LITs team up with our CITs on a project that gives back to our community, such as volunteering with local food pantries or senior centers. Together, they also plan and run their own fundraiser for a charity they choose, learning firsthand how much of a difference they can make.
